the name cake

what was a tease order turned out to be real when my school mate requested an alphabet cake for her sister's birthday.

such a sweet gesture that the cake is a surprise for the birthday lady.

of vanilla sponge cake with chocolate ganache, decorated with Hershey's Cookies & Cream, M&M's Peabuts, Whopper Maltesers and Kinder Schoko-bons Crispy.

roll roll over the kitchen.

people may think i loveeee chocolate like chocolate is life. well, it is. but i dont fancy too sweet stuffs and messy cakes. i like my cakes neat.

i did a trial nutella marble cake for my family's consumption.
thank god for cake leveller! hahahhah. i can slice my cakes neatly and easily. i bought my cake leveller at Sia Huat. and the nutella spread was just nice. hehhh.

so there, nutella marble cake. already five orders for this. lol.

and then i very mentel. attempted a neapolitan marble cake for fun.

why does it smell so goooooood~
of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ripples! perfect combinations in a cake!

yay to no need to buy cakes for Raya!

late night steamin'.

aaand so i jumped the nutella blossoms bandwagon.

ahahha a little too late because there are too many NB bakers around and i could just order, but hey who cares. lol.

actually i had been wanting to make some NB since many months back, but because i was pregnant and got tired easily and then with all those jazz of moving and giving birth, i put the niat off... until recently. i had the cup molds since i cant recall when, and i realized my rice cooker could actually do some steaming! nyahahh.

so yeah, one late night, while Sara was asleep, i made myself busy in the kitchen.

very amateur, as you can see.
my rice cooker could only steam ten cups each time, so one batter took me about four hours. for every one time ten-minute steaming, its only ten pieces. ten, and another ten, and another ten, repeat. oh boyyy. i mentally told myself to get myself a real steamer.
i tried to design my NBs, but i had to give up halfway. i felt it was too time consuming. hey, i have a baby who could cry for milk anytime, im extremely sleepy but i decided to steam away, im exhausted - i cannot afford that luxury to beautify my NBs. after all, its for me and abz to eat on our own, its not some order where im paid for it and neither was it for giving out to people for taste review. so who cares about designs.

turns out pretty alright, i guess. seemed like its really easy! what made it tough (to me) was the designing part. which was why i scraped it altogether hahah.
for the first try, i added two teaspoons of ovalette and it made the batter extra soft than i would like it to be. it almost felt like it was not steamed properly. colors turned out okay - a little faint but that was fine, tad a little nutella filling so i put a mental note to add more the next time.
i was a little disoriented - should i refill first? or should i set aside to cool first? what do i do, what do i do? hahaha. i had to find my own production process, which i settled in pretty quickly.

oh, a few days later, i actually bought a proper food electric steamer. hahah.

and then a couple weeks later, i had a baby shower to attend. of course i offered to make NBs. my dear friend had wanted some anyways. so why not? hahaha.
Its A Boy! baby shower, so the colors had to match the theme, yes?

i decided on a the base to be yellow and the top batter to be shades of blue. unfortunately the shades arent obvious~! it didnt even turn blue blue! boohooo. lol. its alright.
this time i used one less teaspoon of ovalette and more nutella filling - turns out much better. self praise, ey? ahahah. my time taken is also halved! yay! i could now do forty cups at one time. forty!

amidst prepping the NBs, another friend asked if i would sell these babies. you know, weekend bake sales kinda thing. well, i would, but i really need to set my mind to them. with a baby and house chores, time isn't really on my side now. so i guess i'll toy around the idea and just go along.

nutella blossoms are easy peasy! i no longer have to order them! in fact, i dont mind selling them! do you want to order from me? heheh.

after a while, i tried my hands on steamed caramel cakes, aka apam gula hangus.
this kuih is rather hard to find now, and i really liked it since young. so i thought, why not make it myself!

these are made from scratch - meaning i actually cooked the granulated sugar from crystals to caramel sauce. i did not use any caramel syrup to cut down the preparation time.

another easy recipe! the only downside was watching the caramel syrup over the stove closely because if you spill your caramel sauce, be prepared to have ants in thorough clean your kitchen. i actually did spill the syrup and spent a good time cleaning my stove. mehhh.

so here you go - Steamed Caramel Cakes, or Apam Gula Hangus.
i did not add any desiccated coconut flakes because its my first time trying this recipe, so i wanna keep it simple for consumption.

my friends loved it! hahah not self praise ok? one texted me she liked how sweet, moist and buttery the cakes were. thank God! i was nervous giving these cakes to people. hahaha.

so how, wanna order from me? lol

click clack, it goes.

now that we're done with #projecthun, i am thinking of letting go some of my wedding heels which i know are unlikely that i will be wearing them again. really? such shiny shoes? puhhhlease!

rather than letting some of these shoes collect dust and take up space, i decided to let two of them go at slashed prices, in hopes that they'll be of use to another person.
it doesn't matter whether its for bridal or what-occassions-have-you.
so these are the two:

i would really love to keep these shoes lah, but what are the chances of my wearing them again?

i don't fancy realllllly high heels, so i kept them at a max height. so these pumps are rather, safe during my walking down the aisle then. hahah.
